OUR Story

“I conceived genKati after traveling the African continent for three months and realizing the similarities of African Women and African-American women of my generation... we have the same joys, style, sensibility, confidence, independence, obstacles, and typecasts, yet we are all diverse in many ways. I realized we're all connected by our blackness and I wanted to create a space that would nurture that connection through engagement and conversation.”

Kim Williams

Kim has worked over 25 years in the television and film industry. In 2003, she formed Butterfly Ink Publishing and published her first novel, 40 Hours and an Unwritten Rule: The Diary of a Nigger, Negro, Colored, Black, African-American Woman (2004), which was based on her personal experiences as being the only Black Woman in a White workplace.  In 2010, she co-wrote, directed and produced the theatrical production, BITCH and released her second novel (a middle grade book), MILES AND ZOEY: THE FAMILY TREE.

In 2012, she formed inkSpot Entertainment and created the popular digital series, "the Unwritten Rules" based on her first novel.   The award winning series, 'everything I did wrong in my 20's" followed on inkSpot's YouTube channel in 2014.

With her extensive industry experience, she was invited by the 2017 Piton Independent Film Festival in St. Lucia to teach a three-day Master Class in Producing. From there, she developed a passion for teaching and decided to combine it with her passion for traveling. Having visited 13 African countries, she began teaching young Black filmmakers how to create and produce an industry-standard project from beginning to end. She has facilitated workshops in the U.S., Botswana, Kenya, and Rwanda.

In 2020, she launched the travel brand, the Wander Experience curating experiences that celebrate global Black Culture and retreats on the African Continent for Black Women.

Everything Kim creates, she creates for Black Women because OUR voice has been ignored, marginalized, and stolen for too long. Her mission across all of her five brands is to amplify the authentic voice of Black Women. You can find all brands at www.inkSpotMediaGroup.com
